News Release for LUCKY Mystery Lovers

January 8, 2009, Denver, CO, Venice, FL and Pittsburgh, PA – Meet Zoe Lucky, the 13-year-old heroine of Outskirts Press author M. Carol Coffey’s new release, ZOE LUCKY and the Green Gables Mystery. Our protagonist has courage and spunk and her klutzy charm will capture the hearts of tweens, teens and adults alike. Love, loss, and mystery await the readers of this brilliant first novel.

Imagine a 13-year-old redhead with braces and freckles who has been uprooted from her country home and moved to a suburb of the ‘Burg (Pittsburgh) after the death of her father. The new apartment building is a ghastly pea soup color, and Zoe facetiously names it Green Gables. Zoe’s mother begins working night shift. Zoe tries to hide her fears of being home alone, especially after reading a newspaper article about the Oakland Burglar who escaped from a local prison. Zoe recognizes him as the man who haunts her worst nightmares.

Zoe receives Paki, a plucky African gray parrot, for her birthday and he helps her break the ice and meet new friends. Miss Jahari, an upstairs neighbor and a professor of African Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, translates some of Paki’s squawking and warnings. Toby, a blue-eyed charmer, becomes Zoe’s best friend and her first love. Toby and Zoe have some exciting adventures as they try to identify ‘The Shadow’ and find the hidden treasure. Zoe starts to like Oakland, especially after touring the nationality rooms at the Cathedral of Learning and the dinosaur displays at the Carnegie Museum Complex.

When the burglar breaks into Zoe’s apartment building, not once, but twice, Zoe’s mother is determined to move. Zoe is just as determined to stay in Oakland. Besides, clues and suspects are coming out of the woodwork and Toby and Miss Jahari are helping her put the puzzle pieces together.

But -- with Zoe be able to solve the mystery before the burglar makes his final return?
